BERGMAN: A YEAR IN A LIFE

OUT 25 JAnUARY

Total Film - - Dialogue -

Focusing on 1957, the year Ingmar Bergman made four films (including The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries) and four theatre productions, but delving forwards and backwards from this pivotal point, Jane Magnusson’s candid documentary examines the man and the artist. It’s all here: the genius, the womanising, the desertion of his children, the Bergmania, the ego, the tyranny, the stomach ulcers. “The camera is such a phenomenal tool when it comes to registering the human soul,” says Bergman in one of many archive interviews. Magnusson’s doc proves just this. Jamie Graham
