When they say ‘ultimate’, they’re not taking the Mickey. This 90th birthday bonanza is a virtual m(o)useum, stuffed with model sheets, story sketches, background paintings, postcards, posters, pop art and images of enough merch to fill a Magic Kingdom. The text isn’t too shabby, either. Capturing the Disney icon’s journey from “rebellious country boy to elegant everyman”, it details not just his 122 cartoon shorts but also movie, comic-book and radio appearances.

Unfinished works are explored, too. One where Mickey falls asleep at the dentist’s and dreams of being tormented by a oversized tooth sounds like the stuff of nightmares (or a fake YouTube video).
