SHOWRUNNER MALCOLM SPELLMAN STARRING ANTHONY MACKIE, SEBASTIAN STAN, DANIEL BRÜHL ETA LATE 2020 TBC

After last seeing him in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, where he met up with Old Man Cap to trade an emotional farewell for a big shield and an even bigger responsibility, Marvel will next be catching up with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson – aka the Falcon – in autumn 2020, for this new show that sees him team up with Cap’s other bestie, Bucky ‘Winter Soldier’ Barnes (Sebastian Stan).

There are rumours that the series will centre around Sam trying to live up to the honour of taking over as the star-spangled Avenger while facing pressure from the US government to give up the Captain America mantle. Whether or not any of that is true, one thing is for certain: both Sam and Bucky will be facing off against the return of Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), last seen being imprisoned under threat of electric shock at the end of Captain America: Civil War after successfully breaking up Earth’s mightiest heroes.

In fact, when the teaser footage at Comic-Con revealed Brühl’s bedraggled appearance and a promise that, “Gentlemen, I’ll be seeing you very soon,” it also finished with him donning a purple mask, completing the look of his character in the comics.

With John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad contributing writing duties and Kari Skogland – veteran of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Walking Dead, The Killing and more – directing, the show is expected to be an action-packed thriller series, with plenty of funny buddy moments worthy of Marvel’s best new bromance.
