This solo feature will be Scarlett Johansson’s eighth outing as the MCU’s titular superspy, and is just what fans have been waiting for since she made her bow in 2010’s Iron Man 2. It might not, however, be just what fans have expected, with Johansson describing it as a “family drama”. The plot, which unfolds between the events

of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, is being kept largely under wraps, but we do know that Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow discovers a dangerous conspiracy that will force her to confront her own past – her history as a spy and personal relationships left broken when she joined the Avengers. It could also contains vital hints for Marvel’s upcoming Phase Four, but what those might be is still purely up for speculation.

“It’s ultimately about healing those deep wounds,” says Johansson. “We were definitely not just going to give the fans some, like, spy/assassins movie.”
