OFFICE SPACED

Chatter ‘gems’ overheard in the Total Film office this month… * “Berlinale? Thought you said The Berlin Owl, which sounds like a new Malick film.” * “I’m going to bang out my feature. With great care.” * “Bet you £3.33 Creed 3 is Cre3-D.”

WILDER AT HEART

I’ve recently gone through the hard task of sorting out my hefty DVD collection and found that I couldn’t part with my copy of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, as it was the first DVD I ever owned. Has anyone else kept hold of a VHS, DVD or Blu-ray purely for sentimental reasons, or is it just me? LUCY BARTLETT, BERKSHIRE

Good on you, Lucy. Keep hold of old favourites on old formats? We’ve still got the cellophane, RRP stickers and Our Price bags they came in. The actual tapes, though, look like they’ve spent a weekend in a cattery, and our VCR could audition for the MacGuffin in Indiana Jones 5.

TOILET READ

On reading issue 308’s 10 Of The Best: Letters, I couldn’t believe the letter from the Tooth Fairy to Hannibal from 2002’s Red Dragon was missing. It has to be one of the best letters in any film from the last 20 years; even more interesting is that I bid and spent $180 for the original four sheets of toilet paper from the movie. I’ve had the letter framed and have always been questioned as to why I spent that much on four sheets of toilet paper. The answer is, because it was worth it to have a piece of film history hanging in the toilet, giving people the chance to read a brilliant piece of writing from a classic movie.

PAUL CLARKE, BRADFORD

Amazing. Any guest who happens upon that display must be, ahem, bowled over. Readers! What room-appropriate memorabilia do you have in your house? An Aquaman shower cap? A While You Were Sleeping duvet cover? Kitchen full of dead Gremlins?

SLY NOD

Regarding Godzilla Vs. Kong, I’m hoping for a training montage that leads to a final fight, perhaps with some ‘Eye Of

The Kaiju’ thrown in. And then at the end, maybe a battered Kong searching the crowd, shouting, “AnnDarrow! Ann-Darrow!”

RUSS TRIBE, FAREHAM

Our lips are sealed… though there is a rumour going round that in a few sequels’ time the beasts will make friends and team up against a three-headed Drago.

HOST WANTED?

Idid laugh when Donald Trump resigned from the Screen Actors Guild, but I’ve just realised he would’ve been perfect as the game-show host in the upcoming Edgar Wright reimagining of The Running Man… no?

ARNOLD MORRIS, VIA EMAIL

Got to admit, he wouldn’t have been our first choice, though we won’t deny he ticks certain boxes. We’ll be outraged if Mr. Wright doesn’t cast Nick Frost as Subzero, however.

LOVING THE DREAM

Absolutely loved your Classic Soundtrack piece on Tangerine Dream’s top 10 film/TV scores. My dad’s a massive fan, so TD music was a staple in our house growing up (and on every car journey). However, I feel you’ve omitted one underrated soundtrack from an admittedly mediocre film, 1984’s Flashpoint starring Kris Kristofferson. ‘Afternoon In The Desert’ is a particular gem when listening to with headphones. DEAN TURVEY-BROWN, VIA EMAIL

Consider it the honorary 11th entry on the list, Dean. We dug the piece too, our only gripe being the non-inclusion of ‘Le Parc’, aka the theme from ’80s action show Street Hawk. No matter how many times we rode our state-ofthe-art combat super-cycle up and down outside the writer’s home, he still wouldn’t budge.

CORRECTION

In the ‘Last Time’ section of issue 308’s Is It Just Me…, the quote attributed to Facebook user Crom Arty was done so in error. Apologies for the mistake.
