STAR LETTER

-

What is it about the use of the definite article that has the effect of raising a movie up to that next level? Of course, I’m talking about ‘The’ as I’ve just seen the fabulous The Suicide Squad, and the non-specific Suicide Squad now looks like a damp squib. Also, trailers for The Batman look to offer a similar upgrade on other Batman movies. Previously we’ve gone from Help! (1965) to the Oscar-winning The Help; even this magical use of ‘the’ in other countries’ lingo has given us the immortal likes of Das Boot, La Dolce Vita, Il Postino and, of course, La La Land.
