How did you get involved with Shang-Chi?

I met with Destin and we had an amazing meeting about his take on it, what this movie was going to be, and what it means. I left completely sold and was like, ‘I just want to work with that guy.’

What was it like working with Simu Liu?

I loved working with Simu. This was a really big role for him to take on. There’s a lot of pressure. He dealt with it very gracefully and we definitely had a lot of laughs. I think everyone’s really going to be impressed by what he does in this movie.

How much preparation did you do for your role?

I wasn’t training as intensely as other people, let’s just say that! But I learned a lot of new things. I did a lot of my own stunts, which surprised even me. I was like, ‘I’m not going to get a double!’ I love it. It’s like going on a controlled theme park ride and you just do it over and over again.

How does it feel to be in a film about Marvel's first Asian lead superhero?

It feels amazing. It's the same feeling I felt doing Crazy Rich Asians and Raya [And The Last Dragon]. It's something that you know is going to be the first and it feels special in that way. I can't tell you how great I felt when I saw the movie and was really moved by it.

What are you hoping people will take away from this film?

I think the main message is that you can start over whenever you want. Don’t let what’s happened to you in the past define who you are today, the choices you make and the person you become. I hope they just have fun, scream and jump out of their seats!
