PARIS CALLIGRAMMES
Loosely framed as a series of poetic ‘calligrammes’ punctuated with visual typography, this is a personal doc by German avant-garde filmmaker Ulrike Ottinger about a formative period in her twenties living in Paris. Archive footage accompanies fun anecdotes as Ottinger describes her pre-career as a burgeoning artist discovering new creative trends and movements against a backdrop of socio-political unrest. The result is both an intimate diary and a historical document that rarely strays into self-indulgence and never into over-sentimentality. Matt Looker
