Between its kooky headgear and schematic romantic complications, this NYE party drama creaks with contrivance. Writer/director Jaclyn Bethany’s premise is an old chestnut: a reunion do between 20-something graduates and former high-school mates. One dresses as an astronaut, another as a Russian; between their manifold quirks, none have anything interesting to say. Despite solid casting (Aisha Fabienne Ross, notably), this is a surface-level portrait of shallow people, capped with a self-aware twist that fails to justify time spent in their trying company.
