Echoing its opening, the two ensuing hours follow life-loving sisters Eurídice and Guida (Carol Duarte and Julia Stockler, electrifying), as they are pulled apart by life. At once tender, intimate, explicit and provocative, Karim Ainouz’s film casts a sumptuously lensed light on the trials of two women stifled by domineering men. It’s a welltrodden path, but travelled with purpose and conviction.
