FINE DINING

TF ’s favourite dinner scenes…

-

THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE 1974 Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen), in his apron, serves up a pretty mean BBQ. It’s almost a shame that Sally (Marilyn Burns) is too busy being terrorised and terrified to tuck in. OK, so those steaming sausages were her best friends just a few hours ago, but they sure look tasty.

THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER 1989 Holding court in a gourmet restaurant, sadistic crime boss Albert (Michael Gambon) leaves a foul taste in the mouth with his every action and utterance. But it’s Albert who’s ultimately choking back bile as his long-suffering wife, Georgina (Helen Mirren), exacts revenge by forcing him to eat a human corpse.

GOODFELLAS 1990

When blood-splattered Tommy (Joe Pesci) swings by his mum’s house with gangster pals Jimmy and Henry (Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta), she awakens and insists on giving them all a late-night feed. That’s Martin Scorsese’s mum, Catherine, dishing the grub. Extra points for De Niro’s ketchup technique.

PULP FICTION 1994

Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) hit celebrity-themed diner Jack Rabbit Slim’s for a steak, a burger and five-dollar milkshakes, then dance the twist to Chuck Berry’s ‘You Never Can Tell’. Tarantino’s served up several memorable food scenes over the years, but this is his signature dish.

HANNIBAL 2001

Ray Liotta again, this time playing Justice Department official Paul Krendler, who finds himself missing the crown of his head as he awakens at the table of Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). The good doctor then removes a nugget of Krendler’s brain and feeds it to him, sautéed with shallots and wine. JG
