- MATT MAYTUM

Did you and Ana hit it off immediately on Knives Out?

It was such a fun job to work on. Even going to the press junket for that – when you have a movie that’s doing well, it’s just enjoyable. We always had a good time together. And she was so amazing in not just The Gray

Man, but also Bond [in No Time to Die].

In her short screen time in Bond, she just proved to be not only wildly capable with regards to action, but incredibly charming. It just seemed like a perfect fit.

In Ghosted, there’s a romantic connection between your characters. How did that compare to the outright animosity in your previous films?

We’ve obviously played foes in the past. This film starts with them having an incredible, magnetic attraction, and then it goes a complete 180 and becomes very much a love/hate relationship. It’s almost like Han Solo and Princess Leia: we just bicker the entire time. It’s just fun to play all those different colours.

After playing the ultimate hero in Captain America, is it fun to play an everyman out of his depth?

Yeah. It’s so satisfying, knowing that on a certain day of filming with heavy action, you have very little to do. It’s really a relief. Most of those days, you go home with tons of bumps and bruises, and you’re exhausted. That was all Ana. I just got to sit there in the corner and look scared.

Do you see this film as a one-off or have you considered the idea of further adventures for these characters?

Possibly. I certainly enjoyed working with Dexter and Ana very much. I think it depends. If it’s something that audiences really respond to, and enjoy the pairing, then I’m always open to revisit something.

You’ve got two further films this year…

[Red One] is a Christmas film with, obviously, Dwayne Johnson. It’s a movie that I jumped to be a part of. I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve never seen [a Christmas film] that I could have done. So they’re rare, and I wasn’t going to miss my opportunity. And then Pain Hustlers is with Emily Blunt. It focuses on the opioid crisis. It’s really a wonderful story. David Yates is an amazing director. It’s a really cool, kind of edgy look into that world.
