In 1994, fresh-faced retro rock ’n’ rollers Oa­sis un­leashed Def­i­nitely maybe, the (then) fastest-selling Bri­tish de­but al­bum of all time. No UK band since the Sex Pis­tols had in­spired so many kids to pick up the gui­tar and form a band.

Live For­ever was the first Oa­sis sin­gle to break the UK Top 10, and Noel agrees that the song was a turn­ing point. “It was the tune, as I re­mem­ber, that changed ev­ery­thing,” he said with pride on Lock The Box. “It set off a chain re­ac­tion [and] ev­ery­thing fol­lowed on from that.” To play the tune you’ll need to be con­fi­dent with strum­ming, chunky double stops, arpeg­gios and Noel’s go-to shapes for solo­ing and the ma­jor and mi­nor pen­ta­tonic scales.
