British Blues Explosion Live

Total Guitar - - ALBUMS - Joe Bonamassa

It’s been a few months since Bonamassa’s last release (January’s Black Coffee with Beth Hart) but true to his relentless work rate, here’s another dose of the bluesman extraordinaire. This live album and DVD sees Bonamassa interpreting the Rosetta Stone of British blues rock following his tribute tours and resulting recordings honouring the Three Kings, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. That means Beck, Clapton, Page – the 1960s British heroes (oddly no Peter Green). Joe really understands what makes his heroes tick, balancing their feel against his own flourishes with a honed band. Less obvious material is tackled, such as a fiery organdrenched take on Beck’s Plynth(water Downthedrain) and Zeppelin’s Boogie Withstu, alongside the on-point Slowhand vibrato of Motherlesschildren and the Bluesbreaker’s Littlegirl. note.
