Four To The Floor
The unsung pedalboard heroes of tone
A great way of lifting your sound and a boost you can fine-tune to taste – as well as shaping the iconic tones featured here in a more detailed way before the amp.
A basic clean, transparent boost is a vital tool for helping your leads and solo sections cut through organically in the mix of a band.
A hugely overlooked effect. Compression can balance louds and softs for clean picking and fingerstyle. It can also even out of a phaser, flanger or wah’s peaks and troughs if placed after them .
Many people think wah and go off on a wacka wacka funky tangent but setting one in position (known as parked or cocked) can be a great way to hit a sweet spot and most midrange frequencies - see Mick Ronson’s work with Bowie. There are even pedals dedicated to a parked effect.
