avoid! Modulate (2002)

Total Guitar - - BACK TRACK -

7 Like many guitar-oriented musicians before him, and with about as much success, Mould blundered into the realm of experimental electronica and dance music on 2002’s Modulate, and despite best intentions, this clotted marriage of genres never quite makes sense of itself. Synthesizers dominate on tracks like Semper Fi, an insufferable dose of noise pop, and while Slay-sway and The Receipt are more familiar in both instrumentation and structure, they still fail to convincingly hybridise guitar music and electro-pop with the same kind of success as contemporary acts like Sleigh Bells or Animal Collective.
