BI L LY GI BBONS
Known for having a big beard and an even bigger guitar collection, the Reverend Billy Gibbons isn’t one to tie himself to a particular model or make of guitar with religious devotion. In fact, throughout his career, he’s played a huge range of guitars. When it comes to Telecaster-style guitars alone, the ZZ Top frontman’s inventory is still rather sizeable. He’s used a rare early1950s Fender Broadcaster, a 1963
Fender Esquire and at least three John Bolin custom models with chambered bodies, including one nicknamed “The Peeler” which features a printed finish designed to look damaged by flood water. ZZ Top’s third album Tres Hombres is a landmark work that exemplifies the band’s Southernrock-meets-blues-boogie sound. Drenched in gain, and slinking along in swing-eighths, you’ll hear the Broadcaster on Jesus Just Left Chicago.
