GOT THE TONE
The gear on Gary’s classic track, Still got the blues
1 59 “STRIPE” LES PAUL STANDARD
Yes, Gary owned Greeny, but his ‘Stripe’ Les Paul was used on Still Gottheblues. The lead guitar intro, solo 1 and first half of solo 2 are all played with the neck pickup, before Gary switches back to the bridge in bar 17.
2 MARSHALL MID-60S JTM45 REISSUE
This was a prototype amp that was soon to be released by Marshall. Set mostly clean with a pedal providing the drive tone.
3 MARSHALL GUV’NOR OVERDRIVE PEDAL
Cranking the gain and midrange on Marshall’s famed Guv’nor pedal pushed the amp hard, giving the song its signature fat, sustaining tone.
4 ROLAND SDD-320 DIMENSION D CHORUS
Perhaps surplus to requirements, but if you’re playing the verse arpeggios, dial in a light chorus tone with gentle stereo spread but very little pitch modulation.
