WELCOME TO SKY VALLEY KYUSS
(1994)
Stoner rock demigods Kyuss formed in the California desert, and their music sounds like those sandy wastelands. Future Queens Of The
Stone Age leader
Josh Homme’s throbbing, nasty fuzz tone allegedly came from two cabinets set up to face each other, creating phase cancellations that removed certain frequencies. His Ovation Ultra GP was permanently set to its Dimarzio Super 2 neck pickup, and by tuning to Drop C he anticipated metal’s descent into ever lower and heavier sounds. Stoners and doom metallers alike owe Kyuss a huge debt, and Dave Grohl called them “the future of grunge music”, before later collaborating with Homme.
