PAUL SAYS...
Heavy metal is the music closest to my heart, so it’s exciting to begin to get to grips with powerchords. It’s also very challenging for a novice player who finds it difficult to manage that stretch between fingers on the fretting hand. One of the main issues for me is maintaining the correct thumb position so that the stretch is more easily reached. But hitting a powerchord correctly is an amazing feeling – especially when mixed in with a Black Sabbath style tritone chord, which Jenna also showed me. I once held Tony Iommi’s guitar during a Black Sabbath photo session backstage at Meadowlands arena in New Jersey. This memory is all the inspiration I need to keep practising.
