Koenen debut delights coach

-

QUEENSLAND Fusion coach Kylee Byrne has heaped praise on Townsville junior Cara Koenen after starring on her Australian Netball League debut. Goal shooter Koenen, who moved to Brisbane from North Queensland this year, made 34 of 38 shots ( 90 per cent) in the Fusion’s 26- goal win over the Canberra Darters on Sunday to help deliver the Fusion’s first win of the season. It continued the former Magnetic North Steelcat’s rise through the ranks after winning the most valuable player award at the Australian under- 19 championships earlier in the year. Byrne, the Australian under- 21 coach, was delighted with Koenen’s debut. “It was great to see what Cara Koenen could do on the ANL court and she passed with flying colours,” she said. The Queensland side, which features Firebirds Demelza McCloud and Ameliaranne Wells, lost their opening game to the Southern Force on Saturday.
