Townsville Bulletin

Pick up your Sun and let us dazzle you

-

WE HOPE you enjoy reading your newlook Townsville Sun, which you can pick up at more than 60 bulk drop sites around the region, online and in today’s Bulletin.

Along with being easier to access, the new format means the Sun will be brighter and more connected to the community than ever before.

The new sections will focus on what’s happening in your backyard, providing not only a rich source of news, issues and events but a platform to highlight the achievements of local residents.

Community newspapers play an important role in the civic life of a region and that’s why we have striven to create a publication that best reflects and celebrates the Townsville of today.

Through your stories, letters and photos, we want to give you a voice through the pages the Sun. The Sun is a great addition to the

Bulletin and, we think, to the wider community it serves. Fight the right battles DAWSON MP George Christensen should focus on issues central to his electorate.

Too often, Mr Christensen attracts headlines for the wrong reasons.

The maverick MP was yesterday forced to apologise for publishing a controversial Facebook post linking the gay marriage debate to guns.

He seemed to be arguing that if people championed the US Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of gay marriage, they should also back the country’s policy on the “right to bear arms”.

Leaving aside the fact that his line of argument made no sense, it was unnecessarily divisive.

There was suitable outrage in the responses the statement attracted.

With the downturn in the mining boom, Mr Christensen’s electorate is facing some serious economic issues.

In fact, he has shown in the past he can be a passionate and effective advocate for his constituents on these matters. He should redouble his efforts in this space.
