June 30, 1933
After a hazardous trip to The Pinnacles, at the Upper Bohle, a total distance of 30 miles, the Ambulance brought a man named Jack Garner, aged 56, into town about 9.20 on Thursday evening. Garner, through a slight mishap, had suffered a compound fracture above the right ankle and was conveyed to the General Hospital where he was detained.

Old Towersites and many Townsville friends of long standing will regret to hear of the death of Mrs Margaret Gard, wife of Robert Gard, well known city newsagent, which occurred at a late hour on Thursday night, at her residence, Stanton Terrace. The late Mrs. Gard, who had reached the age of 72 years, was a native of Charters Towers, and had been a resident of Townsville since 1913. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, the Misses Mavis and Cecily Gard, and two sons, James and Robert.

Tragic circumstances now surround the recent visit of the American All Stars Rugby League players to Townsville with the admittance to hospital of one tourist as a positive polio sufferer. He is 22- year- old, six- footer Jack Bonetti, who was taken to the Townsville General Hospital on Saturday. One of the American players who remained in Townsville, Ray Terry, said on Monday night he had advised Bonetti’s parents by radio- telephone in Livermore ( California) of their son’s illness.
