BULLETIN SQUARE WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND AT TOWNSVILLE

GERALD SOWORKA, WEST END

There are lot of people interested in the arts in Townsville but it has room to grow. We’ve seen ourselves as a sporting or a mining town and the arts area is the big area where growth can happen. The arts precinct that is being proposed with the waterfront development is a great idea because it brings arts literally into the centre of the city. We are going to draw a lot of tourists to the area and we can really have a vibrant culture that is alive all the time.

KAREN DAY, ANNANDALE

I am loving the weather in Townsville and it’s easily the best part of living here. It makes it a great place for people, including my family, to come up from down south to visit. The cold is terrible down there at the moment so this is magic for them and we should really capitalise on it to bring more tourists.

VANESSA CANNON, TOWNSVILLE CITY

There are no children’s parks in the Townsville CBD. The closest ones are on The Strand so it would be great if there was something in the waterfront development for activities for kids incorporated. We need free space. The kids have heaps of fun with the water fountain in town but we

need more of it.

MICHAEL POPE, TOWNSVILLE CITY

I am really excited to see what could happen across the other side of the river. Art transforms cities and I think it can be a huge economic driver for Townsville. We have a lot of potential if we do what other cities have done, so I hope Townsville gets behind the development of Ross Creek. It’s not a sport versus art thing, I want the superstadium too.
