Indie band brings fresh tunes

-

NO STRANGER to hard- work, Melbourne pop band Ocean Party is hitting the road again to promote their fifth album in just three short years.

The six- piece band has been busy recording in the studio before kicking off their biggest tour yet, starting in Canberra this week.

We spoke with guitarist Lachlan Denton ahead of their Townsville performance at The Rec Room next Wednesday night.

“We played Townsville a couple of years ago and we had a really nice time,” Lachlan said.

“We have a few connections through meeting people from Townsville in Melbourne.

“It seems people who grew up in regional areas seem to be drawn together in the city.”

Lachlan told us their new album Light Weight is a dynamic collection of songs created by all six band members with a refined pop sound theme.

“A lot of the time the inspiration for our music is the touring and experience from the last album we made,” Lachlan said.

“We spend a lot of time making music together and we are always pushing ourselves to refine our craft.

“It’s the first album we have recorded in an actual studio and not in a lounge room or a machinery shed.”

With six members in total the group can get a little crazy but after knowing each other since high the boys know exactly what makes each one tick.

“We all grew up together so we know each other really well,” he said.

“We played in different bands through school but were all really good friends. Once everyone finished school and we found ourselves in Melbourne it seemed right to play music together.

“We know how each of us operate so we are able to strike a good balance.”

With their tour fast approaching the band is keen to get on the road again and do what they do best, performing and connecting with their fans.

“Touring for us is about spending time with your pals and meeting good people along the way,” he said.

“I’m hoping that by the time we get up north we’ll be sounding tight and keen for some beers.”
