COWBOYS’ YOUNGEST FAN LATE FOR THE GAME
NEWBORN Dylan Nathaniel Heames did not quite make the Cowboys' grand final win on Sunday night. Parents Tamara and Isaac Heames, however, were able to watch the thrilling closing stages of the Cowboys’ win in the birthing suite at Mater Hospital before the delivery of their first baby.
AS SCREAMS of joy rang out around North Queensland after Johnathan Thurston’s stunning field goal, Tamara Lourie and Isaac Heames had a little something else on their minds.
The Townsville couple managed to watch the last moments of the Cowboys’ first NRL grand final win against the Brisbane Broncos on Sunday in the birthing suite, before staff at the Mater Hospital surrounded them to deliver their first baby.
Dylan Nathaniel Heames arrived at 10.25pm on Sunday, weighing a whopping 10 pounds three ounces ( 4.61kg), leading family and friends to joke he may end up a front- rower one day.
Ms Heames said thanks to epidural she was able to watch the his- toric grand final but she “may have been a bit distracted”.
“Isaac was quietly cheering to try not to disturb me,” she said.
“I was still more focused about the fact I was going to have my baby.”
Ms Heames said the couple weren’t expecting to be in hospital so early, with Dylan due yesterday. “My mum jinxed me,” she said. “She said ‘ you’re going to go on grand final day’.”
While staff suggested Johnathan might be the most appropriate name, the couple decided to stick with the one they had already picked out.
Ms Heames said she thought Dylan would certainly be a Cowboys fan when he grew up.
“His pop is a big Cowboys supporter,” she said. “I’m sure they’ll sit down together and watch the games.”
