Tragic death of a woman in her prime

-

FRIENDS of a woman who was stabbed to death will gather tomorrow morning to pay tribute to her.

Atop Castle Hill at sunrise, the friends of Corinne Henderson will grieve for her, remembering her friendly disposition and all her big plans for the future.

Sadly, those plans will never be fulfilled.

It’s heartbreaking to think of all that she might have done had her life not been cut short, with her former partner charged with her murder.

People who knew her will be struggling to put aside anger and make sense of what has happened.

One thing is for certain. It is a terrible tragedy for anyone to die in such a manner but it’s made even more devastating by the fact that this was a woman had so much ahead of her.

As her friends say, she was looking forward to all that life was offering.

Her future was so bright and 32 is too young to die.

In a world where violence against women is all too common, it’s hard to know where to start in preventing more tragic deaths.

It’s a sad fact that although many people typically think of women needing to be aware of their safety around strangers, there are far more incidents like Ms Henderson’s, where the accused is someone that they know.

There is no single answer to the problem but something needs to change. Too many lives are at stake. At least now the issue is, more than ever before, on the public consciousness.

Last week it was announced that Townsville would be one of 12 Australian sites to share in $ 15 million for a specialist domestic violence support unit.

It is a good start but the campaign to protect women can never end.
