CAFE DREAM COMES TRUE
IT’S a case of better latte than never for Tracey McLean, who took three years to turn her dream of opening her own cafe into a reality.
Townsville mum Ms McLean, who used to manage a Lukabean Cafe in town, opened her own coffee venue called Latte on Walker this week.
The cafe is in the foyer of the Crowe Horwarth building.
“Running my own business is going to be a challenge, but I’m excited about it,” Ms McLean said. “The cafe is set up at Walker St, and gets a lot of foot traffic from all the workers at nearby businesses as well as the Townsville Courthouse.”
Ms McLean was introduced to the site through Colliers International.
“It took about three years before I finally had the money to purchase my own business,” she said. “I’m trying not to worry about the challenges ahead and just focus on enjoying the moment and meeting new people.”
Ms McLean said she had hired six staff to work at the cafe, which opens from 7am to 3pm during the working week.
She said she was committed to using local products and keeping money in the local economy.
“I use Mareeba coffee from North Queensland, the milk is from Misty Mountain Farms in the Atherton Tablelands and we also sell treats made from Townsville’s Nourishing Bites health food store,” she said.
Colliers International realtor Shaun McLaren, who facilitated the deal, said the entry to the foyer, where the cafe was located, had undergone a major facelift and looked great.
“Everyone who goes into the building walks right past her cafe, which would be great for her business,” he said.
