RORY’S EN POINTE FOR DANCE DREAM

- VICTORIA NUGENT

TOWNSVILLE ballet dancer Rory Neville will move to Melbourne this week to join the National Theatre Ballet School. The 18- year- old Pimlico State High School graduate said being accepted into the program was the realisation of a dream.

A TEENAGE ballet dancer has been accepted into a prestigious Melbourne dance school known for training some of Australia’s best dancers.

Townsville- raised dancer Rory Neville, 18, will move to Melbourne this week to take up a position at the National Theatre Ballet School. “This has been my dream,” he said. The school has been teaching dancers for more than 75 years and graduates have danced all over the world.

The Pimlico State High School graduate said the three- year course would give him the chance to compete for performance roles or maybe be a teacher one day.

“For male dancers you need to have a lot of strength both in the legs and arms,” he said. “It’s very competitive. “There was an audition process but I sent in a video audition because it was on during the QCS ( Queensland Core Skills test).”

Rory who has been dancing for eight years has now started crowd funding to help cover the cost of moving and the $ 10,000 a year tuition fees.

So far he has raised more than $ 2500 of his $ 5000 goal.
