Fearless Fury keen to send a message

- MICHAEL THOMPSON michael. thompson@ news. com. au

THE Northern Fury’s new dawn starts tonight.

The Fury play 2015 Queensland National Premier League winners Moreton Bay tonight, and incoming coach Paul Roncato believes the Fury have nothing to fear.

Left with just a fortnight’s preparation following the surprise resignation of former Fury coach Ian Ferguson, Roncato holds realistic expectations of his team’s early season progress.

Coming off a confidencebuilding 4- 1 win over Townsville Premier League side Saints Eagles Souths, Roncato nevertheless expects to have the Fury reach full service in about a month’s time.

Not that Roncato is holding up the white flag to Moreton Bay. Far from it.

The Burdekin- based mentor expects the Fury to carry a no- fear approach against a Jets team featuring South Korean strikers Kyu Sub Bang and Donggyu Lee.

“( Fury chairman) Rabieh Krayem has had a look at their training and told me Moreton Bay look very strong upfront with their strong Korean strikers, but we still believe we have a good strong squad ourselves,” Roncato said.

“Everyone is buzzing about this game and for me personally it’s a very exciting time.” FURY COACH PAUL RONCATO

“Everyone from our goalkeeper ( Ryan Murphy) to our striker is buzzing about this game and for me personally it’s a very exciting time.

“We spoke about this game and not being intimidated by Moreton Bay, and afterwards I had everyone at training coming up to me and saying ‘ Coach, we can beat them’.

“The confidence and hunger in this group is unbelievable.”

The Fury suffered a midweek setback when defender Kris Dennis suffered a groin injury at training, and Roncato expects to blood two or three Fury newcomers.

A strong performance could do wonders for the Fury following their winless 2016 season.

“Whatever happens on the weekend we will learn from it,” Roncato said.

“The boys have been very good at training, but there’s still a fair bit of work to do.”
