Gymnasts stretch for titles

-

MORE than 30 gymnasts from across the region will demonstrate their skills tomorrow as part of the North and Far North Queensland artistic gymnastics senior regional championships.

Gymnastics Queensland CEO Kym Dowdell said athletes from the Atherton, Barron Valley and Mareeba gymnastics clubs would compete with host club Townsville Gymnastics.

The four clubs would take to the floor as well as apparatus such as the vault, high bar, parallel bars, rings and pommel horse to showcase their skills.

“Gymnasts have been honing their skills and practising their routines over the last few months, so it will be exciting to see the talent on display this year,” Ms Dowdell said.

“The competitors are all vying for a place at the state championships being held in Brisbane in April, where they will compete against the best in the state for a place on the podium.”

Ms Dowdell said she wished all competitors the best of luck and encouraged anyone looking for an enjoyable weekend activity in Townsville to come along and spectate at the event.

“Artistic gymnasts demonstrate significant strength, flexibility and precision and the competition will undoubtedly make for a fascinating Sunday outing.”
