Aloisi in favour of break for A- League

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

BRISBANE coach John Aloisi has demanded the A- League next season goes into recess during FIFA international windows despite the Roar being poised to take advantage of a weakened Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

While no matches have been scheduled in almost every other national competition around the globe this weekend due to FIFA World Cup qualifiers being played, the A- League has a full round of games.

As a result, the Victory take on the Roar tonight without four members of their attacking arsenal – the mercurial Besart Berisha ( Kosovo), James Troisi ( Socceroos), and New Zealand pair Marco Rojas and Jai Ingham.

It’s an even worse scenario for Wellington Phoenix, who will go into battle against Newcastle tomorrow without seven key players, who are international duty.

“International windows has to come in ( to the A- League) and I’m sure it will,” Aloisi said.

“Everywhere else in the world there’s an international break and it has to come in Australia.

“You want to play your best team all time, so I’m sure ( Victory coach) Kevin Muscat’s no different. He wants to play his strongest team and he’s not able to.”

The Roar have lost one player to international duty – teenage New Zealand fullback Dane Ingham.

But Ingham is not in Brisbane’s best 11 and it’s unlikely he would have even been in Brisbane’s 16- man squad tonight had he been available.

The Roar will also be without midfielder and skipper Matt McKay, who will be sidelined for at least four weeks due to injury.

Aloisi also said he was “pretty close” to agreeing to terms to coach the Roar for two more seasons.
