Feldt to rebound

COWBOYS winger Kyle Feldt is confident a solid game against Newcastle can turn his season around and is adamant being off contract isn’t playing on his mind.

Feldt leads the league with 17 errors but enjoyed a blemish- free game in last week’s win over the Knights.

He hopes it will provide a springboard as he readies for the challenge of facing Fijian star Semi Radradra and Parramatta’s potent left edge.

“It was a good step forward for my own game personally, and I’m looking to build on it this week,” Feldt said.

“I wouldn’t say it’s confidence, it’s more a lapse of concentration really. I can catch a ball and everyone knows I can catch a ball, it’s just concentration that’s been letting me down lately.

“When you make an error you can get frustrated and sometimes it snowballs into your game.

“I played a good game last week, I was pretty happy.”

Radradra, Michael Jennings, Manu Ma’u and Corey Norman are a potent force and will undoubtedly test a Cowboys right edge which has uncharacteristically leaked points this year.

“They’ve got a good edge on that left edge there, our right edge has got a big job and I think we’re up for it,” Feldt said. “It’s not really about pushing up, it’s holding our line and making sure we don’t give him too much space.”

The Cowboys right edge has also had its issues in attack, with Feldt and centre Justin O’Neill yet to score a try between them this season.

“I think we showed last week we’re really threatening. We just need to polish off a few little things,” Feldt said.

We’ve got a good edge and have been together a while now, we’ve just got to be a bit better this year.

“It ( being tryless) is not something you think about, when you’re a winger you’re going to get a try no matter when.

“All we do is hang around footballers as people say, it’s not something playing on my mind.

“I had a good run last year and got a fair few, no doubt they will come this year.

“It ( contract) is not really something I’m worried about at the moment, if I’m playing good footy a contract will come.”

Cowboys prop Scott Bolton ran for 174 metres off 15 runs and made 34 tackles against the Knights, but knows they’ll have to improve to beat Parramatta.

“I didn’t set too many standards coming into this year but I wanted to get more minutes under my belt and take the opportunity I have ( to start) with another established front rower there ( with Matt Scott injured).”
