PNG flying into city’s attractions

-

TOWNSVILLE is set for a dose of northern exposure, thanks to a profile in the inflight publication of Papua New Guinea’s national carrier.

The seven- page feature will appear in Air Niugini’s inflight magazine Paradise from Friday, highlighting the best of what the city has to offer.

The story features Townsville icons such as the North Queensland Cowboys, Magnetic Island and Castle Hill, also highlighting tourist offerings including water skiing tours and the Frosty Mango’s famous ice- cream.

Air Niugini’s twice- weekly direct flights between Townsville and Port Moresby started on March 31, building on the ties between the two locations.

Townsville Enterprise tourism and events manager Bridget Woods said the organisation hosted journalist Sarah Nicholson in late June.

“We took her all across the Townsville region and we’re delighted to be able to share those experiences with the Air Niugini market,” she said.

“PNG is a new market for Townsville from a leisure perspective and we’ve been working with Air Niugini to promote the city as a destination. We’re looking forward to welcoming both PNG nationals and other Air Niugini passengers to our region.” AN upset in the AFL and a golden point NRL win at the weekend has won one lucky Bulletin reader $ 2250.

John Palmer, 74, won the jackpot in the Bulletin’s Tip and Win competition, picking all the winners in the weekend’s games across both codes.

The long- time home delive ery subscriber put his windfall down to being an ex- Victorian and passionate North Queensland Cowboys supporter – and a little bit of “a fluke”.

“I thought West Coast might win because Adelaide had their two best players out,” Mr Palmer ( left) said. “Then Manly won by golden point, so that was a nailbiter.”

To play Tip and Win, cut out the entry form from the paper every Wednesday and pick your winners in each game of that weekend’s NRL and AFL rounds. See the entry form tomorrow for details.
