T O WNS V I L L E ’ S I g n a t i u s Park College has won its second Queensland All Schools Touch Football title with a 9- 1 grand final demolition of Brisbane’s Cleveland State High.

Ignatius Park won the under- 15 crown after going unbeaten throughout the fiveday tournament. Almost 450 teams took part in this year’s Brisbane- based champion- ships and Ignatius Park romped through its pool games to reach the semi- finals and beat powerhouse Emmaus College of Rockhampton 6- 3 to enter the final in fine form.

“By the time they got to the grand final the boys were so pumped up,” Ignatius Park touch football co- ordinator Gian Guerra said.

“They just ran around Cleveland, couldn’t stop them. circles you

“For the whole tournament they went above and beyond, and even against Emmaus they were just too good.

“Emmaus is usually the team to beat and this year they had about six Queensland representatives in their team, so for our boys to outplay them the way they did was an awesome achievement.”

Ignatius Park’s open and under- 13 teams reached the quarter- finals of their divi- sions, placing fifth and sixth respectively.

The under- 15 side was so dominant in its 75- team division that it scored 95 tries and conceded just 12 over 10 games.

Team captain Clay Smith was named player of the final and also earned Ignatius Park’s players’ player nod.

Ignatius Park’s state title adds to its third at this year’s National Schools Cup on the Sunshine Coast.
