New Cowboy rates as Mr Perpetual Motion
KANGAROOS rookie Jordan McLean insists he can play through the entire Rugby League World Cup as he prepares to line up in Friday’s quarter- final.
McLean is expected to be one of five players, including captain Cameron Smith, who will play their fourth straight match when Australia clash with Samoa.
Props David Klemmer and Aaron Woods and McLean’s fellow rookie Wade Graham are the other players who have yet to be rested through the campaign.
McLean said his body remained in peak condition despite a long season that included 20 games for the Storm on their way to the premiership.
“I’m feeling really good at the moment. I actually enjoy trying to play each week,” he said.
“Hopefully I’m learning a few things each week as we go along on this tour.
“I’m not too sure what’s happening this week but hopefully I’ll go again.”
McLean, who is likely to be in strong contention for a NSW State of Origin spot next year, said his confidence had soared after his introduction to the international arena.
He is flourishing in a forward pack dominated by Blues big men, including Woods, Klemmer, Graham, Boyd Cordner and hopeful Reagan Campbell- Gillard.
He also believes playing alongside former Storm teammates Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi and Smith have been key in settling into the Australian fold.
The 25- year- old is considered a major piece for his new NRL side North Queensland next year.
“I suppose it’s the elite. I’m definitely building confidence being in this team,” McLean said.
“Obviously as the weeks go on I feel more confident.
“It’s a bit easier knowing a few more boys in the team. “I’m going along all right.” Coach Mal Meninga admitted planning to play most of his forwards through the majority of the matches.
“We’re really keen on keep on playing our big men,” he said. “The more you play your big men, the better prepared they are when it comes to those hard battles.”
