Phoenix to rise in city
A TOWNSVILLE business has bought an office in the CBD for around $ 550,000 as interest in the city starts to pick up.
Phoenix Constructions have purchased the 268sq m professional office at 1/ 79 Denham St and plan to move in January.
Phoenix Constructions director Nathan Evennett said they decided to move from their base out at Garbutt to help raise the profile of the business.
“It’s at the intersection of two busy roads so it provides that exposure,” he said.
“We’ve pretty much gutted the whole inside and we’re doing a full office fitout.
“It’s going to have an industrial theme and we’re exposing the red bricks of the building while there will also be lots of glass and steel.”
Phoenix Constructions is a local family- run business that was started in 1922 by Barry Marsh and Bob Evennett.
The company mainly does commercial and industrial projects.
They have completed multiple multimillion- dollar projects, including the Fairfield Homemaker Centre and the Cowboys Leagues Club refurbishment. Mr Evennett said ensuring clients were happy and then became repeat cus- tomers was at the core of the success of the business.
“Our business relies on repeat clients,” he said.
“We ensure our clients are taken care of so if we do one job they will get us to do another.”
Colliers International selling agent Shaun McLaren said interest was slowly increasing in the city.
“I think it’s a great sign for Townsville and businesses in general when a long- standing company like Phoenix has the confidence to buy an office in the CBD,” he said.
“I think that interest has increased across the city and certainly there has been an increase in inquiries in the CBD both for leasing and sales.
“They see the city is going to improve and on the back of low interest rates and projects like the stadium and Adani it’s a good opportunity to get into the CBD.”
