Lynch in no rush to nail down his plans

- ANDREW HAMILTON

BRITAIN’S former heavyweight world champion David Haye has pulled out of next month’s scheduled showdown with WBC cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew after suffering a “freak accident”.

Bellew stopped compatriot Haye in the 11th round when they met in March and the soldout rematch was scheduled for December 17. It will now be postponed until March or May.

Haye ( above) said he had suffered a bicep injury after falling on stairs.

“I am devastated to announce my much- anticipated rematch against Tony Bellew has been postponed,” he said. FORMER New England Patriots wide receiver Terry Glenn ( above) has died following a car crash in Texas.

The 43- year- old, who spent 12 seasons in the NFL with New England, the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys, died after the vehicle he was travelling in hit a concrete barrier, authorities in Irving confirmed.

Glenn joined the Patriots after being chosen with the seventh overall pick in the 1996 draft and caught Tom Brady’s first touchdown pass in 2001. GOLD Coast skipper Tom Lynch has set no timeline on making a decision about his future and is focused on spending every day trying to help the Suns improve.

The restricted free agent could become the highest- paid player in the game whether he stays or goes at the end of next year, with several Victorian clubs already building massive war chests to lure the 2016 AllAustralian home.

Lynch’s management has made it clear that team improvement will play a key role in whether Lynch stays at the Suns.

Lynch was less blunt when he fronted the media at a sponsorship launch today but made it clear he was prepared to bide his time. However, he also gave Suns fans cause for hope when he declared how impressed he was with new coach Stuart Dew.

“I think free agency is part of the game now and we all need to get used to it,’’ he said.

“I’m just really excited about getting involved. I have been so impressed by Stuey so far.

“I haven’t set any time on it. I just want to every day improve the footy club and see where we are going.

“I am excited by the journey ahead. From what I have seen the past couple of days, I have been very impressed with where we are heading.

“I want to see Gold Coast Suns succeed – that’s my first priority and my only priority.’’

This time last year it was cocaptain Steven May who was out of contract and the subject of speculation about his future.

May said he would not pressure Lynch on a decision, but would do his best to show him the Suns’ future was bright.

“We are 20 days into the last year of his contract so he has plenty of time,’’ he said.

“I certainly took my time. I had different reasons to Tom and he may have some other sort of reasons, but the one that stands out is team success.

“I am committed to showing him that we are going in the right direction.

“And he is definitely 100 per cent in, so it is not going to be a distraction.

“It will obviously be in the media a bit because he is a highprofile player, but he is a professional and he won’t change the way he goes about things.’’

Dew also said he had not broached the topic of Lynch’s future with him but had total confidence his heart was with the Suns.

“What I am sure with Tom is that he is invested for this season and that is all I need to know,’’ Dew said.

“I’ve spent a fair bit of time with him the last six weeks both in trying to recruit players and meeting new players and that tells me what type of character he is and where his mindset is at the moment.’’
