Digging up dirty truth on Adani jobs dream
THE implications of the Adani Carmichael coal mine are vast.
Those hoping for a super wellpaid job can visualise a big house, holiday house, 4WD, second car, boat, maybe a Harley- Davidson motorbike, designer sunglasses, well- stocked booze cabinet – the list of desires is endless.
Back to reality: very few permanent jobs after an initial boom; all the things you have borrowed money on will have to be sold. Sorry about that, but at least a few politicians have a job because you voted for them on the promise of jobs and money.
Of course there is the big winner, the big grinner, Gautam Adani, one of the mega- rich moguls of India. This fat cat is sitting on 12 billion bucks and has managed to convince the Australian Federal Government, the Queensland State Government, Townsville and Rockhampton councils ( note: this means you and me, the Australian taxpayer) to pay for unlimited water, a rail corridor, airport and seaport infrastructure, all on the promise of “10,000 jobs”, which, when the numbers are crunched, comes down to 1400 jobs.
In the fever and distorted perception of jobs, jobs, jobs, money, money, money, the reality of the situation has been lost.
Emotive cries from Adani and his cronies that they only want to help the poor population of India by supplying electricity is absolute BS! Adani owns his own power station and sells electricity for as much money as he can get.
People of his ilk are extremely well skilled at accumulating vast wealth at the expense of the woefully poor. The rich get richer while the poor get poorer. KEITH JAFFRAY,
