Families find strength in numbers

- BETTINA WARBURTON

IT’S been double the joy and double the belly giggles this week as the Townsville Multiple Birth Association celebrates Multiple Birth Awareness activities.

Townsville and District Multiple Birth Association president Bridget Kerans, a mother of four- year- old twins, said Multiple Birth Awareness Week was the perfect opportunity to highlight the importance of providing information and support to multiple birth families. “This year’s theme is ‘ strength in numbers’ which represent what our group is all about,” she said.

“It’s about giving families with twins, triplets or more, strength by providing information and support.

“It’s about connecting families of multiples so that they know they are not alone.”

Ms Kerans said many families with multiples had travelled, or were still travelling, a long, difficult road.

“The task of carrying, delivering and raising two or more children at once is extremely demanding with many associated challenges,” she said. “Connecting with others certainly helped me during some very challenging times with my girls.”

The Townsville- based support group has a membership of 90 families from Bowen, Mount Isa, Ingham and Townsville.
