Satellite city’s park contract stays local
PROGRESS is continuing on satellite city Elliot Springs, with the $ 6 million tender for the development’s parklands awarded to a Townsville landscaping business.
Transcape Constructions was given the contract for the 4ha parkland with Stage 1 due to be completed next year.
The local business has operated in Townsville for more than three decades and will construct and landscape the park in three stages over the next two years.
Lendlease regional development manager Simon Walker said the design would complement the natural landscape while many of the existing trees would remain.
“The parklands offer yet another option for the community of Townsville with the key feature and focal point being a 10m high ‘ treehouse’ with different levels and three slides,” he said.
“We wanted to create a place that really resonated with Townsville and after an extensive consultation process found the community is looking for different options to keep kids entertained.
“The design also complements the natural landscape which has been adapted to ensure many existing trees are retained to provide natural shade.”
Stage 1 of the park includes an all- inclusive playground suitable for children of all abilities, a learn- to- ride bike track, a mountain bike skills area and the first of five trails, barbecues, shelters and a 3km return trip walking path.
Once complete in 2019, the park will include a community sports club and cafe, junior sports field, tennis court, netball court, off- leash dog park, areas for food vans and markets, and connections to more than 17km of walking and mountain bike trails.
Transcape Constructions founder and managing director Scott Dobson said they were excited to start work in the residential community.
“Transcape has a long history in creating landscapes and parks and we’re thrilled to be delivering this new and innovative park,” he said.
