FROLING HITS A NEW HIGH IN NBL MOVE

- JON TUXWORTH

TOWNSVILLE prodigy Harry Froling will kickstart his professional basketball career in the NBL for the next two years, but is staying tight- lipped on which team he has agreed to join.

Froling, who turns 20 today, confirmed he had all but agreed to terms with a franchise, with Adelaide, Perth, Cairns and Melbourne all speculated as potential suitors.

The multi- talented big man will play for defending Queensland Basketball League champions Townsville Heat this season following a volatile sophomore year at Marquette University that saw him part ways with the Golden Eagles.

Froling refused to budge when asked which club he would likely agree to terms with, but said any deal would be done sooner rather than later. The Townsville junior instead spoke of his desire to continue keep his professional career on track.

“Obviously college didn’t work out how I wanted it to and I’ve always wanted to be a pro basketball player,” Froling said.

“It’s a good stepping stone being here in the QBL and I have aspirations to perform well in the NBL.”

Froling views the NBL’s growing stature and quality as an ideal platform to help launch his dream of an NBA draft.

“One of the reasons I wanted to come back and play in the NBL is the recognition it’s getting NBA- wise, and NBL teams are going over and playing NBA guys,” he said.

“Getting an opportunity to maybe do that down the track would be nice, and the quality of talent the NBL has now is great.

“A chance to play at the highest level in Australia and the people I’m going to be around, it seemed like the right path and stepping stone for me.

“To test myself against grown men and learn off experienced players, I’m excited for it.”
