YOUNG MUSOS PLA Y AMONG THE S TARS

- DANNI SHAFIK

YOUNG Townsville musicians will join hundreds of Australian performers in a unique collaboration.

Musicians of all ages and skill levels can join EveryOneBand by submitting a recording, with all submissions placed within one final piece.

Recordings from Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Midnight Oil and The Preatures will be included in the final product. The initiative is being organised by music charity Support Act, which helps artists and music industry workers in crisis. Musical Chairs Tuition Studio owner and teacher Jason Clark has encouraged four students aged between eight to 13 to get involved after taking part himself.

“I was learning my own piece and realised that many of my students would have the capability to take part also,” he said. “In the spirit of the project, I did what I could to invite more people into the fold.”

Mr Clark said students had done really well to learn a piece over a matter of weeks in their own time.

“The biggest emphasis is playing to the beat for recording, something many players simply never get the chance to do,” he said. “To play consistently for the considerably long duration of the song is a commendable task for beginners, too.

“I think all students were nervous when the record button was live, but after a few takes they became comfortable.”

Mr Clark said the process of recording was something every musician should experience.

“It drastically emphasises the importance of tempo and establishes the good habit of tuning your instrument before you play” he said.

“It’s also brought forward the idea that it’s all right to make mistakes.”

Submissions for EveryOneBand close on April 30.
