Throwers in a spin for titles

- OLIVIA GRACE- CURRAN

TOWNSVILLE’S top frisbee throwers are on the Gold Coast for a national competition.

President of Townsville Ultimate Disc, JJ Walker, said the sport was gaining traction across the city.

“Townsville Ultimate Disc has been around for about 10 years but these last few years we’ve started getting really popular and it’s been great,” Ms Walker said.

Townsville Ultimate Disc’s social and competitive leagues are played on James Cook University grounds.

“It’s not all students even though it’s held at JCU — there is a really huge local population who come and play frisbee,” Ms Walker said.

Townsville’s Phil English and Kat Smith and former Townsvillians Rob Dehollander, Matt Finn and Jasmine Lee are competing in the Australian Ultimate Championships which began yesterday and finish on Sunday.
