Pressure’s off but rivals pack a punch

-

WINNING always makes the week at training a lot more fun.

Not that it was all crisis meetings and everyone turning on each other after we’d lost a few, but you just get back to being more comfortable with how you do things.

After losing five games, a lot of the talk was about us being uptight and looking clunky and I think that comes with the bit of pressure that was building on us as well.

We haven’t changed what we’ve been doing too much, but just the mood around the place is a lot better.

Everyone’s trained really well and we’ve been pretty sharp with the ball so hopefully we can take the good things from what we did last week and hang on to them.

It’d be nice to go on a bit of a run now, but we don’t think about the long term too much.

That had probably been a bit of the problem, being worried about later in the year, so the more we can think about one week at a time the better we’ll be.

It’ll be great to see Shaun Fensom back on the field for us against the Raiders tomorrow night.

He’s one of those players that you enjoy playing footy with because you know what you’re going to get from him and I’m personally very happy that he’s back.

Defensively, he cleans up a lot of other people’s misses, whether it’s their missed tackle or if a team’s getting a bit of a roll on he’ll come up with a tackle that can get control of the set again.

Things like that you probably don’t notice too much watching on TV, but playing with him you certainly do.

It’s worked out really well for him, given how big the injury was that he’s only missed seven games.

That’s pretty crazy and it shows how hard he works and I think how tough he is as well to come back the way he has.

I know he had some tough times through his recovery, whether it was from pain or just not feeling right on it, but he’s done a great job with it all.

One of Canberra’s strengths is the size of their forward pack and it’s always tough to contain a team like that.

We have to be good defensively through the middle and that’s where “Fenno” is very tidy around the ruck.

It was great for us to get the win for Ethan Lowe’s 100th game last weekend and I want to thank the fans for sticking by us. We had a good crowd last weekend, even after five losses, so hopefully everyone comes along to support us again.
