Tigers roar back from loss to Bulldogs

- JON TUXWORTH

HERMIT Park coach Jamie Fogg believes a loss to Thuringowa a fortnight ago could be the “kick up the bum” his team needed after a Jason Di Betta goalkicking masterclass piloted them to an 89- point win over Northern Beaches on Saturday.

Small forward Di Betta kicked 10 goals as the defending premiers ran riot in the 20.10 ( 130) to 5.11 ( 41) victory to stay just one game adrift of the ladder- leading Bulldogs. Cameron Webster chipped in with four goals and fellow Tigers midfielder Broderick Hardacre was also heavily influential in the victory.

“Di Betta was enormous with 10 goals but you don’t get those without good delivery from the midfield, and those two ( Webster and Hardacre) led the way,” Fogg said.

“We won our first few games pretty easily but after that loss to the Bulldogs we’ve addressed what we need to improve on. For a small bloke he ( Di Betta) can find the footy and is a good kick for goal; he works on that a lot doing extras at training.”

In Saturday’s other result, Thuringowa stretched their unbeaten run this season to six games with a 22.15 ( 147) to 5.5 ( 35) win over University Hawks at Harold Phillips Oval.

The Bulldogs ended the opening term ahead 43- 1 and were never headed, finishing halftime ahead 10 goals to one. Bulldogs’ Rim Kris kicked a game- best six goals.
