RICK’S JEEP RIGHT IN THE F AST LANE

- KEAGAN ELDER

THIS Jeep produces more horsepower than a V8 Supercar.

But that is not the only number which has excited Rick Hobson, the owner of this new $ 130,000- plus supercharged Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

“It’s the most powerful SUV built in the world – it’s got 700 horsepower,” Mr Hobson said.

“You’re not going to see too many in Townsville.

“It’s a special edition. There’s only 62 brought into Australia and mine’s number 57.”

Mr Hobson is a developer for Mount Margaret Estate, which sponsors Shae Davies’ Ford Falcon FG/ X in the Dunlop Super2 Series.

He said the Trackhawk trumped the Supercar’s maximum power output by 50hp. With that much power, the Trackhawk can put plenty of sports cars to shame.

Capable of reaching 0- 100km/ h in a most impressive 3.7 seconds, the Trackhawk has revved into supercar territory dominated by the Europeans.

It’s only fractionally slower than other SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus which cracks 100km/ h in 3.6 seconds and the Tesla Model X hitting triple figures in 3.1 seconds.

But the Jeep is far cheaper with the others costing $ 390,000 and $ 256,000 respectively.

Mr Hobson, a keen motorsport enthusiast, said his new car went hand- inhand with the sport and wanted the top- of- the- line Jeep to honour V8 engines, which he believes will soon be a thing of the past.
