Wild about Harry’s goal

- JON TUXWORTH

TEENAGER Harry Linning has enhanced his growing reputation after his audacious late goal sent Rebels to the top of the Premier League table with a 2- 1 win over Warriors.

Entering the top- of- thetable clash at Greenwood Park on Sunday night a point be- hind the Warriors, his back heel flick in the 88th minute made the difference.

Linning has played a handful of minutes for NPL outfit North Queensland United, and was part of North Queensland’s victorious state schoolboys title campaign.

After a scoreless first half, Rebels opened their account just after the break through Jacob Hurney, before the Warriors equalised from the penalty spot through Mark Millgate 10 minutes later.

After retaking the lead, Rebels’ defence had to dig deep to withstand the Warriors.

“It was our most important game for a couple of weeks,” said Rebels coach Mark Heath.

“We put Harry on with about 15 minutes to go and it was a bit of brilliance from him ( to score his goal), which was well deserved.”

Heath also praised the senior debut of Colts player Mac Reid.

Warriors coach Noel Walker said they were left to rue a lack of polish in front of goal.

“We missed quite a few chances, we found the pitch a bit heavy and didn’t adapt to it early,” he said. “We had chances we should have put away.”

In other results, Brothers ensured they kept in touch with the top four after accounting for bottom side Ingham 3- 0. A late penalty from Gary Robinson sealed a 3- 2 victory for Wulguru over Burdekin, in a match where both teams finished with nine men through red cards.

MA Olympic emerged on top in the battle of third versus fourth against Saints 2- 1.

Women’s Premier League: Burdekin 5 bt Wulguru 0; MA Olympic 4 bt Saints 1; Rebels 3 bt Warriors 0.
