Stott’s Magical Connections
The 28th Australian Festival of Chamber Music comes to a close this evening, but not without one final big hurrah! The Festival Farewell concert ‘ Magical Connections’ will present a glorious and exhilarating musical journey around the globe, showcasing the magnificent musicians still standing after 9 days of stellar performances. Artistic Director Kathryn Stott is excited about the evening’s program of music, “the Farewell Concert encapsulates everything about the 2018 Festival and should be a real rollercoaster of musical styles, emotions and high voltage drama. It combines some major chamber works with popular melodies we all know and love; plus a few surprises too! I called it Magical Connections because this festival has been about the special connections I have with people, places, composers and musicians. All of our musical stars will be shining in Townsville tonight. ” The concert will be staged in three parts with two intervals; it includes three Australian premieres with music composed by two of the Festival’s popular characters - Argentina’s JP Jofre ( composer and bandoneon player) and China’s Wu Tong who plays the traditional sheng, sings and composes. The evening ends with all musicians on stage performing Dvořák’s Coming Home, arranged by another popular artist, the UK’s Roddy Williams. Fuel up folks, it’s going to be a fabulous finale!
