Mauk has knack for payback

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

BRISBANE Roar midfielder Stefan Mauk has some mixed and hazy memories of Dolphin Stadium, but his mind is clear about one thing – beating old club Melbourne City tonight.

Mauk makes his competitive Roar debut against his former team tonight in an FFA Cup round- of- 32 clash.

While he is new to the Roar, the Australian under- 23 representative is no stranger to the Redcliffe venue hosting the do- or- die- Cup battle.

In August last year, Mauk wore the City colours in the Melbourne club’s 2- 0 Cup win over local outfit Peninsula Power.

But in scoring the game’s first goal on the stroke of halftime, Mauk was left concussed. He took no further part in the game and was subsequently sidelined for three weeks due to the concussion and a minor quadriceps injury he suffered earlier in the game.

“Hopefully, the goals come again ( tonight) but with no injuries,” Mauk said.

“I’m the ‘ local’ here … it’s a nice stadium, a good place to play and hopefully it’s a good game for us.”

Mauk has made a habit of scoring against his former clubs in a young career that has already included stints in Melbourne, Adelaide, the Netherlands, and now Brisbane.

“I’ve definitely performed well against my old teams, so that’s something I hope I can do against City ( tonight). It would be a good start to my Brisbane Roar career,” he said.
